September Song

For the younger folks who may not know Hoagy Carmichael, the composer of this classic, a visit is in order to the Hoagy Carmichael pages totally dedicated to the man and his music. This song has been recorded by everyone from Frank Sinatra to Willie Nelson, but I chose the man most associated with it's earliest years.

For those who only know Jimmy Durante from old movies, a little investigation will bring some wonderful insights into an amazing human being if only to learn why an older generation will still sometimes say, "Goodnight Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are."

With that intro, enjoy a lovely song about the passage of time and the rewards that come with the autumn of life courtesy of the talents of two amazing men. Have fun.

September Song

Oh, it's a long, long while
From May to December
But the days grow short,
When you reach September.
When the autumn weather
Turn leaves to flame
One hasn't got time
For the waiting game.

Oh the days dwindle down
To a precious few . . .
September, November . . .
And these few precious days
I'll spend with you.
These precious days
I'll spend with you.

Oh the days dwindle down
To a precious few . . .
September, November . . .
And these few precious days
I'll spend with you.
These precious days
I'll spend with you.
These precious days
I'll spend with you.
