It is the season of county and state fairs, one of the great family traditions. Most of us have seen some version of the Rodger's and Hammerstein musical, State Fair, either in motion pictures (1945 and 1962) or on stage (1995).
The joyous song sung as the Ferris Wheel whirls against the night sky has been sung by virtually every glee club ever constituted. So go with long summer nights, families, farm animals, prize winning creations, midway games, young love, and songs that everyone knows:
TAKE THIS TUNE
Monday, August 3
It's a grand night for singing,
The moon is flying high,
And somewhere a bird
Who is bound he'll be heard
Is throwing his heart at the sky!
It's a grand night for singing,
The stars are bright above.
The earth is a-glow
And to add to the show,
I think I am falling in love!
Falling, falling in love.
Chorus:
It's a grand night for singing,
The moon is flying high,
And somewhere a bird
Who is bound he’ll be heard,
Is throwing his heart at the sky!
Maybe it's more than the moon,
Maybe it's more than the birds,
Maybe it's more than sight of the night,
In a light too lovely for words.
Maybe it's more than the earth
Shiny and silvery blue.
Maybe the reason I'm feeling this way
Has something to do with you!
Chorus:
It's a grand night for singing,
The moon is flying high,
And somewhere a bird
Who is bound he'll be heard,
Is throwing his heart at the sky!
It's a grand night for singing,
The stars are bright above.
The earth is a-glow
And, to add to the show
I think I am falling in love!
Falling, falling in love!
It's a grand night for singing,
The moon is flying high,
And somewhere a bird
Who is bound he'll be heard,
Is throwing his heart at the sky!
It's a grand night for singing,
The stars are bright above.
The earth is a-glow
And, to add to the show
I think I am falling in love!
Falling, falling in love!
